Summerwrights Creative Writing and Photography are Andrew Wright and Amy Summerhayes.
Embarking on their first journey together in 2000, having decided to cut loose from the grind of London and head out to distant shores, their first port of call was Vietnam. Some nine years later they still call it home. In that time they’ve travelled far and wide soaking up vivid and varied experiences, some of which they’ve written about and others that they’ve managed to capture in the photographs you can find within these pages.
Andrew is a creative writer and photographer. His dad handed him his first camera at the age of ten and he’s never looked back. His first SLR was a Zenit B, a Russian tank of a camera, where the most advanced piece of technology was an internal light meter. Since then he’s thankfully upgraded his equipment. He has a passion for writing and photography because “it allows us to stop and consider the beauty around us, to capture in pictures and words the wonder of moments that would otherwise be fleeting. This is so important in a country, such as Vietnam, that is changing so rapidly. Things that were easy to witness in Vietnam only a decade ago are now rare or gone forever and it’s up to those of us with a talent for description, photography and video to record as much as we can before it disappears with the memories of the old”.
Amy Summerhayes is a photographer of many years who has a natural eye for composition and creative photography. Her ability to take photos of the clichéd or mundane with a distinction that reinvigorates them and fills them with wonder, sets her apart from other photographers. When she’s taking photos of what is already engaging and wonderful then the results are truly incredible.
Andrew and Amy started f/stop Saigon Photography Club three years ago to help new and upcoming photographers to meet, critique, discuss photography, take part in assignments and photography trips, and hear from professional photographers. f/stop Saigon raises money for charity through exhibitions and has its own website
